Hello! I am so happy you are here!
Have you ever thought I wish I knew my counselor a bit more? Well I want to tell you a little bit about me if that's okay?
It's nice to meet you! My name is Erika Hansen. I am a licensed mental health counselor in Iowa and Illinois (tLMHC & LPC). I am affiliated with The M.A.D. Therapy Collective. My business office Hobein Counseling Services LLC is located in The M.A.D. Therapy Collective offices. I graduated in 2017 from Walden University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus in forensics. I received my undergraduate degree at University of Dubuque in Psychology and a second major in Criminal Justice. Now, I live in the Quad City Area and like to attend yoga classes (Arial yoga is hard but is fun!), and brunch. Who doesn't like waffles? I enjoy attending art festivals and like to paint.
I started as a mental health counselor in 2017 as a mobile crisis counselor but I have been working in the mental health field since 2013 as a direct support professional. I had a lot of learned experiences with individuals who were suicidal, homicidal and self-harming. I then switched to being a substances abuse counselor. I really enjoyed working with co-occurring individuals who needed help with their mental health illnesses in addiction. I then went back to crisis counseling at the local ERs. In the hospital setting, I have worked with law enforcement and medic/fire to assist individuals in getting the correct treatment. I am working towards two full licenses in the state of Iowa and Illinois. State of Iowa requires 3500 hours of direct and indirect time with clients. I decided that I wanted to work with individuals, families, and groups. I like seeing people grow and find solutions with their events that happen in life. I think that growth for a person is needed to become the best version of themselves and to create a strong self-identity. My modality is solution-focused, and person-centered. This means I use certain modalities to fit your needs. Person-centered identifies that you are your own expert in your own life. I promise to actively listen to you and not to judge you. Who wants more bias people in their life? Not me. So I am no judge, in person-centered this is called unconditional positive regard. Solution-focused means that as a counselor I will help you identify your strengths rather than your weaknesses and assist you in identifying solutions to what you want to process in your current or future life. I get to be a person in your life cheering you on and validating your experiences. I get to be apart of your life and see your positive growth!
